Villager Meeting II
And just before the party was the Village Hall Meeting, the second of my term in office. As usual I was typing like a man mad to get my starting script ready and planning my party as well as Riven's rather... distracting comments didn't help XD I ended up being only a minute late I think which really isn't that bad. And Degra (Lofti) took to checking the tax marks like a duck to water which I was really pleased about. I hadn't even considered what an issue it would be after Von quit his deputy role and when Jonathan decided he didn't want to do it I was quite worried but, like I said, I had no need. Degs is probably best for it and since he asked so nicely I'm giving him a trial at being my body guard too.
Issues discussed were mainly to do with this month's festival. Seems like the general concensus is that the villagers' want a festival to celebrate... themselves? Lol! No, I can see why. It would do a lot of good to draw the community together; something that is essential for the Villager group to function. Business might sponser certain events themed to their occupation and their roles could be explained and demonstrated at stalls. Over all a very satisfying meeting and I hope to bring up some of these ideas with the Arisen when I meet with them next week. *Shivers* I don't know what's going to happen about midsummer's though... as that's not too far away either and I'm not too sure about holding festivals so close together.
Didn't get the to the meeting or want a copy of what happened? Just ask.

A minute off isn't bad at all. Given all sorts of factors that could have, and probably will some time in the future, happen a minute or two is to be expected. I'm glad that Degra proved to be useful to you and helped make things go easier. The only hitch is the time it takes to check tax marks. I'll probably pull Degra aside to practice different methods as well as typing quickly.
The meeting probably would have gone even better if the idiot brigade weren't there derailing the topic. Reading is very important to role playing. Had they read a single thing said they wouldn't have had to open their mouths.
One of the things that sucks about being a Villager is the lack of any say even in the small things that go on in the Village. Often times the 'festivities' ignore the lifestyle in which the villagers must live. I tend to leave them due to that fact that doing anything that that is offered is outside of my character. I would rather be bored a night than break character for the sake of an event that most people are either going to 'forget' the next day or not show up again after.
Logically speaking the Villagers and Gypsies should work together to run it. If one wants to approach it from the aspect of the actual real life festivals and their meaning they are typically the Villagers paying alms and respect unto spiritual and natural forces. It isn't as much paying either to the Gypsies, they serve as a medium and nothing more.
Especially Golgothian Gypsies whom aren't actually descended from born witches but rather genetically altered mutants.
The worst problem within Golgothica is that there is no mixing of the different races. People follow the character tier too closely and often times regard any not in their same group as being beneath them. A part of the game to an extent but it isn't good role playing when everyone does it the same way.
Maybe an OOC meeting can be put together and we can get everyone that wants to be involved talking to get the ideas flowing? Really, I agree with you. I'm not sure about having two festivals so close together. One will end up being shafted.
It might be easier to just celebrate Midsummer by having a festaval wherein the Villagers showcase their talents?
Maybe some of the people at the meetin were just dipping their toes in the water, asking things they knew had pretty much been answered to get a bit of practice in before asking me some really juicy questions... though probably not ^_^' At the very least I'm grateful they attended in the first place; higher numbers make it appear successful and more ears mean more mouths to pass the news about.
I might be able to help out with future festivals, try and make them more relevant to village life without making it boring. I know a lot of time and hard work goes into getting them ready that it can be easy to overlook such things, to look beyond what is immediately relevant to the organiser's group or what they think would be a laugh. Open talks on events are definitely needed instead of just leaving it down to a few or single person as has been the practice before.
Unfortunately I can only think of about three active members of the gypsy group so turning to the spiritual guides to take advice on these sorts of things seems near impossible. And I love the idea of the gypsies being mutated beings; perhaps if those playing characters affected by Starfall accepted this fact we'd have a few less bloated egos. You hear that vampire? You're a friggen mutant! Not some unholy creature sent to prance as an overly dressed neck biter through the twilight.
An OOC meeting sounds good. Maybe as a collaborative effort between me and Mariyah because it seems like too huge a job for one person. I'll have to mention it to her some time.
And the Midsummer’s thing is really difficult to deal with in regards to last week's meeting. After speaking to Kah he has made it pretty clear the gypsies are unlikely to get involved in anything that doesn't directly involve their religious practices. Segmenting it into a two part festival: one villager based the other pagan also makes me worried about dragging the whole thing out too long. Though perhaps we could carefully balance it and make it similar to Mayday - a general festival but run by Wytchaven's residents followed by a short procession, or visa versa..... This is gonna need some serious thought.
As for the people at the meeting, we can only hope that that is the case and not how they are going to act through future meetings. Mind you, I have no hope for Franz and his wife but maybe my clone and her boy toys can shape up over time?
Higher numbers is good, but the turn out wasn't even half of what it was at the previous meeting and we have gotten more villagers since!
Making an event that involves the villagers that isn't boring will be the trick of it, I understand that much. It is partly the fault of the game structure for not going more into depth and giving actual personality to the villagers as a whole. We're just the background characters in the eyes of many when without us the game would fall flat.
If people actually role played at the celebrations they wouldn't be as boring. But people forget that they are supposed to be in character and just do what they, as players, think is fun. There are more than enough sources from which to pull activities and information so a little dialogue between planning parties should go a long way.
I totally agree on an OOC meeting between you, Mariyah and anyone else willing as it is a hell of a lot for one person to do.
Frankly, that portryal of the Gypsies isn't the best one. It means that they are hardly involved with anything outside of themselves and their interests. Meaning it is either their way or the highway, which isn't fair at all. Kind of a pisser seeing as they use the village proper for their dalliances. Although yes, having two would drag it out way too long. A general festival would work as it is being the only option that t he Gypsies seem willing to give.
I talked to you about this. No one owes you role play just because they own a business, period. Especially if you have annoyed/angered them enough in as well as out of character to mute or chose to ignore you. You, as well as everyone else, are adults. Handle your own problems and stop trying to get everyone else to do it for you.
These are what are called consequences to one's actions, deal with them. You pissed off half the women in the village and yet you are some how surprised that those same women happened to be business owners and want nothing to do with you? Quit moaning about it and move on. Even in real life businesses owners have the right to not serve those whom are known to be problem patrons. And guess what you are? A problem. I tried to be nice to you and to talk you through things but obviously I was wrong to do that. You learn about as well as a damned brick.
You are the player behind Franz and everyone knows it. That is why you still get a lot of ill treatment because you never actually changed. If you tried, it didn't last long. You went right back to forcing your way and making comments that infuriate.
